VIDEO: The Fawley Power Station Chimney - visible from the Isle of Wight - has been demolished this morning (Sunday).
The landmark was turned to rubble just after 7am this morning in a series of controlled explosions.
The 650ft tall facility was decommissioned in 2013, after operating for more than 40 years.
End of one era, the start of another. A local navigation mark is no more, but it marks the start of the Fawley Waterside development in which there’ll be a new landmark building visible from the eastern and western approaches to the Solent. RNLI Fawley Waterside

The tower has been seen from the Island since it was built, especially noticeable on the cross-Solent ferry services.
It has often been referred to as the ‘cigarette’ by locals, due to its look.
