A spokesperson for Southern Water said:
"We arrived onsite quickly and had stopped the water leak by 1.30pm.
"During that time around 50 homes saw interruption to their water supply, however, we re-routed the flows while we worked to repair the burst, which returned most homes into supply earlier.
"The repair is now complete and the main recharged, meaning all customers should now have water back in their taps. We are sorry for the disruption this caused."
