WATCH: Islander Paul's Plastic Bottle Plane Reaching New Heights

An Isle of Wight man is taking his plane building hobby to new heights!

For just £15, Islander Paul Knights has managed to assemble a flying plane made out of plastic bottles, foamboard, popsicle sticks, glue and a bit of sticky tape.

And his invention has taken off - quite literally. Paul even had the bottle to test fly the plane on Culver Down, with help from friend Andy.

Watch for yourself...

Paul, from Ventnor, got inspiration for the idea from videos online. But, he says, using bottles as the fuselage was his 'baby'.

Speaking to Isle of Wight Radio, he said:

"Back in the 70s (when I was a kid!) I could only gaze in awe at the fantastic (but expensive) radio controlled model planes in the window of Shanklin Sports shop.

"Nowadays, with advances in technology – tiny efficient electric motors, powerful lightweight battery packs and the ability for everyone in this hobby to share their ideas online, it is all much more within reach."

Paul says he allowed £45 for a motor and electrics.

He's also planeing on putting together an 'easy to follow' build guide.
