The owners of Newport's popular Phil's Diner have announced they are closing "for good".

The restaurant, on the High Street, is blaming the "devastating effect" of COVID-19 and rising food costs.

Posting on its Facebook page, The Original Phil's Diner said:

"It is with much regret that we have decided to close the Diner for good today. We’ve tried so hard to keep going but no one could have predicted the devastating effect that Covid and rising food costs have had on so many businesses.

"We would like to take this opportunity to thank all our valued customers, some of whom have become friends. We have had a brilliant time being part of the local business community and we wish everyone the very best of luck in the future."
