Whippingham's Folly Inn Shutting For 'Six Figure' Refurbishment

A popular pub in Whippingham is closing for six weeks for major refurbishment works.

The Folly Inn is undergoing an expansion, as previously reported, which is expected to create new jobs.

It will see a new outdoor kitchen and bar, promising a al fresco dining experience all year round, open in the Spring.

The pub's jetty, which is used to welcome boats, is being refurbished and a new water taxi office and shower facilities are also being built.

Next to the jetty, a waterside patio is being extended at the Greene King site. A new heated pergola is also being built over the existing patio area.

Externally, the main garden area is getting an increased seating capacity and a feature fireplace.

Saoirse Doolan, General Manager of The Folly Inn, said:

“The planned refurbishment at the Folly Inn is going to completely transform the site, providing a massively upgraded outdoor area for guests to enjoy in all weathers.

“The pub has always been popular with both islanders and sailing clubs on the mainland, so we can’t wait to show off the planned new features to both new customers and old.

“Although work on the exterior of the pub has started, don’t worry – the pub is still open until late September so come on in for a drink or a bite to eat!”

Work on the exterior of the pub is already underway.

On the inside of the pub, the Folly Inn is being completely refurbished, with new furniture, a new indoor/outdoor fireplace, and bi-fold doors along two elevations.

Ahead of the refurbishment, the team at the Folly Inn are recruiting a number of positions including Chefs. Applicants are urged to email [email protected]

The Folly Inn will remain open until September 25.

It is due to reopen in early November.
