Isle of Wight ferry operator, Wightlink, is to suspend its FastCat service between Ryde Pier Head and Portsmouth, Isle of Wight Radio understands.
Isle of Wight Radio has been told that the service - which has been suspended for long periods several times since the beginning of the pandemic - will be withdrawn from lunchtime on Christmas Eve.
It's believed to be in response to Portsmouth's new Tier 4 status and the restrictions placed on those within the area.
It comes as the Isle of Wight Council has urged residents to respect the new restrictions, which ban those from other Tiers entering Tier 4 areas unless for very specific reasons.
Portsmouth, Gosport, and Havant all entered Tier 4 last week.
The news comes just an hour after Red Funnel announced large reductions in the number of its vehicle ferry sailings between East Cowes and Southampton.
A joint statement was earlier released by the Isle of Wight Council and the Isle of Wight Transport Infrastructure Board this afternoon regarding ferry operators reviewing their schedules.
Isle of Wight Radio has approached Wightlink for a statement.
