A woman in her 40s has died after an incident off Cowes this afternoon (Saturday), it’s been confirmed.
Hampshire Constabulary said it received reports that a person on a vessel had fallen overboard off Trinity Landing.
A woman was pulled from the water but was pronounced dead.
The incident unfolded at around 2pm. It’s understood Cowes Harbour Commission were involved in initial rescue efforts.
Police, paramedics, Cowes RNLI and Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance (HIOWAA) were later called.
Investigations are now underway to establish what happened.
A spokesperson for Hampshire Constabulary said:
”We were called at 2.58pm today (1 October) to a report of a woman in her 40s falling overboard from a vessel off the coast of Cowes.
“She was pronounced dead and her next of kin have been informed.
“We are supporting the Marine Accident Investigation Branch, along with the Maritime and Coastguard Agency, to establish the exact circumstances of what happened.”
