Woman Dies In Hospital Following Bembridge Flat Fire

A woman who was pulled from a flat fire in Bembridge has died in hospital, police have confirmed.

Firefighters, police and paramedics were all called to Crossway at around 8pm on Thursday (27).

Black smoke could be seen billowing out of the first floor flat - and parts of the roof space.

A woman in her 50s, who was inside the property, was subsequently taken to Southampton General Hospital with serious injuries.

Hampshire Constabulary has since confirmed she died at hospital.

A statement from the force reads:

“We were called at 8.50pm on Thursday 27 January to reports of a fire at a flat in Crossways, Bembridge.

“A woman in her 50’s, who was inside the property, was taken to Southampton General Hospital with serious injuries. She subsequently died at hospital and her family has been informed.

“The fire and death are not deemed to be suspicious and a file will be prepared for the Coroner in due course”.

The Isle of Wight Ambulance Service confirmed it sent three vehicles - one ambulance and two rapid response vehicles - to the incident.

 

The Coastguard Rescue Air Ambulance service was in also attendance and landed at Bembridge Airport.
