A woman in her 70s has been assaulted in a park in Newport.
Police were called at 6.43pm last night (Friday) to a report that a woman in her 70s had been assaulted on Furrlongs in Newport.
The victim, a 72-year-old from Newport, was at Isobel Park when she was approached by a woman and assaulted, receiving a minor injury to her neck. She was taken to St Mary’s Hospital for treatment but has since been discharged.
Officers attended and arrested a 28-year-old woman from Newport a short time later on suspicion of assaulting a person thereby occasioning them actual bodily harm and attempting to cause grievous bodily harm with intent.
She remains in police custody at the current time.
Officers remained at the location yesterday evening but the police scene has since been stood down.
