A Wootton man has been convicted for "badly beating" another man — and leaving him in a life threatening condition.
Police were called to reports of an assault at an address in Newport's Caesars Road February 21, 2021.
The Isle of Wight Crown Court heard how the victim, a man in his 50s, would have died had it not been for medical intervention.
Felix Hetherington, of St Edmund’s Walk, denied the charge of causing grievous bodily harm with intent.
The case went to trial and yesterday (Thursday), after three hours of deliberation, a jury found the 27-year-old guilty of causing grievous bodily harm without intent.
The court heard how, as a result of the assault, the man suffered a concussion, a fractured wrist, fractured cheek, fractured jaw, a bleed on the brain, and abdominal trauma which required immediate surgery.
He was found bleeding from the nose, mouth and ears.
Hetherington has been remanded in custody to appear at the same court on January 20 for sentencing.
