Two young Islanders are being sought to take up career-launching apprenticeships with Wight Building Materials (WBM).
The Blackwater-based business, that has been supplying construction materials to the Island’s building trade for over 80 years, is offering placements for apprenticeships in both electrical and mechanical engineering.
Both posts – which will begin in September – offer an ‘an earn-as-you-learn’ opportunity of a competitive salary combined with a with a four-year training programme setting the successful candidate on course to become a team leader of the future.
The placement will combine hands-on experience of work at WBM’s Blackwater quarry with off-Island training.
WBM general manager Steve Burton said:
“We are a proud local company with a strong local supply chain and we take great pleasure in offering first-class career opportunities to young people from within the Island community.
“We currently have just under 40 employees – all of who live on the Island – and I’m delighted to be able to expand our workforce through these two apprenticeships.
“This is a great opportunity for us to work with two young Island people and provide them with knowledge and skills to become future business leaders within their community.”
Candidates will require a minimum of five GCSEs Grade A*- D or 3-9, including Mathematics, English Language and Science.
Applications are open until the end of March.
