Five British Sitcoms We’d Love to See Return for One More Episode

British sitcoms have a special place in the hearts of TV audiences, blending sharp wit, memorable characters, and a unique sense of humour that has made them beloved around the world. While some of these shows ended on a high note, others left us with lingering questions or unresolved storylines. Many of these iconic comedies left fans yearning for just one more episode to catch up with old favourites and see what they’ve been up to since we last saw them. Here are five British sitcoms we’d love to see return for one final episode:

1. The Vicar of Dibley

Set in the fictional village of Dibley, this show was defined by the witty, warm-hearted Reverend Geraldine Granger, played brilliantly by Dawn French. Since the series ended, there has been much speculation about what happened to the quirky residents of Dibley. An episode catching up with Geraldine and her eccentric parishioners – perhaps dealing with modern challenges in their quintessentially British village – would be a delightful treat.

2. Blackadder

Each series of Blackadder took viewers to a different period of British history, featuring Rowan Atkinson’s cunning and sarcastic character navigating one predicament after another. The last episode, set in the trenches of World War I, ended on a sombre note. But what if there were one more chapter? A special episode could explore a new historical setting, such as World War II or even the space age, offering a fresh batch of cunning plans, insults, and classic comedy with a historical twist.

3. The Office (UK)

The mockumentary style of The Office revolutionized British comedy, and its awkward, often cringe-inducing humour became a blueprint for future shows. David Brent, played by Ricky Gervais, is a character fans love to hate, and his desperate attempts to achieve fame after the office closed down have been a source of both comedy and pathos. A final episode could revisit Wernham Hogg to see how the characters have fared in the modern workplace. Has Brent found success, or is he still dreaming of rock stardom? And what about Tim and Dawn – are they still together, and how have they adapted to the new work-from-home culture?

4. The IT Crowd

Revolving around the dysfunctional IT department of the fictional Reynholm Industries, The IT Crowd offered a quirky, offbeat take on office life. The show’s characters, from socially awkward Moss to slacker Roy and clueless boss Jen, provided plenty of laughs and memorable moments. A final episode could explore how the gang deals with the latest technological trends or the madness of a virtual office environment. Have they moved on to bigger things, or are they still in the basement, fixing problems by turning computers off and on again?

5. Only Fools and Horses

No list of British sitcoms would be complete without mentioning Only Fools and Horses. The show followed the trials and tribulations of the Trotters – Del Boy and Rodney – as they chased one ill-fated get-rich-quick scheme after another. Although the series ended on a high note with the Trotters inheriting a small fortune from Uncle Albert, fans would love to see one more episode. How did Del and Rodney get on in their later years? Are they still living in Peckham, or did they finally make it out? A reunion episode could answer these questions while bringing back beloved characters like Boycie, Denzil and Marlene for one last laugh from the cast who are still with us, while remembering those legends who have sadly passed away.
