Ability Dogs 4 Young People Looking For Isle Of Wight Puppy Parents

Ability Dogs 4 Young People is actively seeking compassionate Puppy Parent Volunteers to join their growing team and help transform the lives of disabled people on the Isle of Wight.

Approximately 20% of the Island’s population live with a disability (2021 Census from the Office for National Statistics).

Many of these individuals are young people who could benefit from the life-changing support of an Ability Dog.

Facing the challenges of living with conditions such as cerebral palsy, epilepsy, diabetes, autism and anxiety, can make tasks like attending
school, meeting friends, or leaving the house, feel overwhelming.

Sadly for many, this leads to social isolation.

Having an Ability Dog can make a life changing difference. What does being a ‘Puppy Parent’ involve?

As a Puppy Parent, you will play an incredibly rewarding role within the charity.

You will facilitate the early training and socialisation of future Ability Dogs, helping them to develop the skills they need to become fully qualified.

By attending weekly training sessions at the Ability Dogs Training Centre at Sandown Airport, you'll receive expert guidance and support.

Being a Puppy Parent means enjoying the love, fun, and joy of watching a unique puppy grow, play, and cuddle every day!

There are no financial commitments—everything you need, including food and veterinary care, is provided by the charity.

The team are also flexible and accommodating, appreciating the time and effort given from each of their volunteers.

Ability Dogs 4 Young People has had a fantastic year so far and is on track to place 14 dogs with their Recipients and their families.

With over forty young people currently on the waiting list, the demand for Ability Dogs is growing.

Each Ability Dog in training needs the love, support and care from the wonderful team of volunteers who make an invaluable difference to the Charity’s impact.
