Age UK Isle Of Wight Spreads Christmas Cheer On Local Wards

Age UK Isle of Wight, a local charity organisation dedicated to supporting older adults, brought joy to patients spending Christmas at St Mary's Hospital.

With the help of local schools, Age UK Isle of Wight distributed handmade cards to uplift the spirits of those in hospital during the festive season.

The handmade cards were crafted by students from Lanesend Primary School, Newport C.E Primary School, and Bembridge Primary School.

Each card was filled with messages of season greetings and well wishes, providing a sense of connection and community to those who may be feeling isolated during their hospital stay.

Age UK Isle of Wight has been an integral part of the local hospital community for the past four years.

Their dedicated team, stationed at St Mary's Hospital, provides a range of support services to enhance the well-being and recovery of patients.

One of the key initiatives offered by Age UK Isle of Wight is the provision of activities at the Community Rehab Unit.

These activities help patients regain their strength and vitality through daily engagement.

Over Christmas, many festive activities were co-ordinated by the team to keep patients active, including Christmas crafts, singing and exercise sessions.

Additionally, the organisation offers care navigation services on the hospital wards.

Trained staff members spend time with patients, discussing their needs and ensuring a safe transition back home.

Furthermore, Age UK Isle of Wight provides welfare checks to individuals once they have returned home, ensuring their continued well-being.

In times of crisis, Age UK IW Community Team extends their support beyond the hospital walls.

The organisation offers community support to individuals who have been discharged, aiming to prevent readmission and provide the necessary assistance for a smooth recovery.

"We are delighted to have brought some festive cheer to the patients at St Mary's Hospital during this Christmas period," said Kim Williams, Age UK IW’s Community Services Lead.

"The handmade cards from local schools not only brightened up their day but also reminded them that they are not alone. We are proud to be a part of the local hospital community and will continue to provide support and care to those who need it."
