Blast From The Past Returns To Dinosaur Isle This Weekend

Dinosaur Isle's popular Blast from the Past event makes a welcome return this weekend (16-17 November).

The event brings together heritage, natural history and archaeological groups and organisations from across the Island under one pterodactyl-shaped roof on Culver Parade, Sandown.

Local heritage exhibitors this year include the Isle of Wight Bus and Coach Museum, Dimbola Museum, and the Isle of Wight Council Heritage Service who, along with Dinosaur Isle Museum, operate the Newport Guildhall Museum, Cowes Maritime Museum and Newport Roman Villa.

Organisers are excited to be welcoming back a team from the popular Winchester Science Centre as well as members of the Isle of Wight Metal Detecting Club, who will be along with some of their latest discoveries which tell the history of our Island home.

Local archaeologists will be on hand to talk about the latest discoveries from the Mottistone estate.

Alongside Dinosaur Isle’s expert palaeontologists will be local fossil collectors and Natural History Museum, London fossil mammal expert Dr Jerry Hooker. They will be on hand to identify your finds and give advice on how to care for your fossils.

Tour operators Wight Coast Fossils and Dinosaur Expeditions who run the popular Dinosaur Farm will also be at the event and will bring along some of their latest finds.

The museum shop will be open offering a wide range of dinosaur themed gifts, where there will be discounts to get your Christmas shopping going. There will be children’s activities and face painting.

The event will be open between 10am and 4pm on both Saturday (16 November) and Sunday (17 November) with last admission at 3pm. Admission is just £1, and parking is free of charge.
