BRIT School Students Bringing Free Show To Newport's Mountbatten

An original performance is to be staged at Newport's Mountbatten by young people from leading performing and creative arts centre, The BRIT School.

The charity, which provides a wide range of care services to a growing number of Islanders, including 24/7 in-home and bereavement support, will host a group of creative teenagers as they get to know patients, Mountbatten staff and volunteers.

Using what they have learned at daily interactive workshops, the performing arts students will stage a unique production, turning life stories into theatre, music and dance.

Watch for free (and enjoy wine and canapes!) at Mountbatten’s community space and café, the John Cheverton Centre, in Halberry Lane, Newport, between 6.30pm and 8pm, on Wednesday, July 17.

Mountbatten CEO, Nigel Hartley, said:

“This is the third year we have partnered with The BRIT School and it is always a pleasure to host such creative young people.

“While they are with us, the students discover what a remarkable place Mountbatten is, by meeting patients, families, staff and volunteers. Meanwhile, we are always delighted to see the impact the experience has had on them.

“We hope you will be able to join us on the night, to see their unique performance.”

The BRIT School, based in Croydon, provides education for more than 1,400 pupils aged between 14 and 19, in music, film, digital design, visual arts, production and performing arts.

Two-thirds publicly funded, Mountbatten supports in excess of 2,200 Islanders on any one day. 

The BRIT School performance, which takes place at the John Cheverton Centre, Mountbatten Hospice, Newport, next Wednesday (July 17),  is free, with those wanting to attended advised to book tickets online beforehand or phone 529511 to secure their seat.
