Families Invited To Go Fossil Hunting At Fort Victoria Country Park This Summer

Families are being invited to join the Isle of Wight Council's ranger at Fort Victoria for a host of fun rock pooling and fossil hunting activities this summer.

Starting next week, these fascinating, guided sessions cost just £2 per person or £5 for a family and are a great way to explore the beach at the West Wight country park, near Yarmouth.

Hunt for fossils of animals that lived here millions of years ago, including turtles, crocodiles and sharks, before exploring the rocky beach, home to all sorts of sea creatures including crabs, fish and anemones.

Sessions are held throughout the summer holidays though days and times vary due to the tides.

The next sessions are being held on:

  • Tuesday, 30 July at 11am.
  • Wednesday, 31 July at 1.30pm.
  • Thursday, 1 August at 2pm.
  • Friday, 2 August at 2.30pm.

For future dates and times, follow Fort Victoria Country Park on Facebook.

Sessions last around an hour to an hour-and-a-half and there's no need to book, just turn up (numbers allowing). Meet outside the ranger's office.
