Free Family-Friendly Art Trail Launching This Weekend To Light Up Cowes

A lighthouse inspired art trail is set to light up Cowes for the summer months.

Running from 13 July to 1 September, Light the South public art trail features a series of magnificent 8-foot Lighthouse sculptures designed by local and national artists and 40 Little Lights created by schools and community groups.

Presented by Southampton Hospitals Charity in partnership with Red Funnel and Wild in Art the trail aims to raise funds for Southampton Children’s Hospital.

The free walking trail will guide visitors through some of Cowes’ most well-loved and historic landmarks and streets and will shine a light on art and culture in the heart of the city.

As well as encouraging local residents to re-discover the city they love, the art spectacle is expected to attract thousands of visitors from outside the area, providing a welcome boost for local businesses.

Ellis Banfield, Southampton Hospitals Charity Chief Executive, said:

“We’re thrilled to be launching Light the South this weekend.

"As well as creating a brilliant adventure for families, this spectacular trail will help Southampton Hospitals Charity raise vital funds for our Children’s Hospital, one of the top three paediatric centres across the country.”

Each sculpture is sponsored by local businesses from across the region and will be auctioned on September 20 at the Southampton International Boat Show before heading off to their forever homes.
