Fundraiser Being Held For Brave Five Year-Old Freya

A fundraiser has been launched for a five year-old girl with roots on the Isle of Wight who has been diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer.

Freya was diagnosed in September with osteosarcoma, just as she was due to start her first year of primary school.

Spending her fifth birthday in hospital, December 11 saw her undergo surgery to remove her right leg.

Freya will head to London next week to speak with surgeons and consultants and find out how she is healing post surgery.

Amazingly, only eight days after her initial surgery this young trooper was walking with a frame.

Freya started chemotherapy again on December 29 following Christmas with her grandparents and while she hasn’t yet had any scans post surgery, the consultants have declared themselves confident they got all the tumour and any cells that might have been left behind.

Freya's auntie, Donna, said:

"Life has changed dramatically all of a sudden.

"Freya’s mum (Shannon) is now unable to work for an indefinite period of time, while as family all we can do is pray with Freya having to endure so much chemotherapy and surgery.

"We all love you Freya, stay strong and please fight — we are all behind you. You’re so brave and we are so proud of you."

In better news, Shannon and Freya finally have a home after being told the previous property wasn't suitable, meaning home stays are now possible.

Fundraising event details

An upcoming Island's Got Talent event is being held to raise vital funds for Freya.

It will take place on Friday February 16 at the Sandown Conservative Club, with doors opening at 6.30pm and adult tickets available for £5, while kids go free.

The evening will see ten acts performing with all ticket sales going to Freya's Future, which will help with her aftercare.

There will also be a children's area and face painter at the event and tickets can be purchased from the bar.
