Heartless Air Rifle Act Sees Stray Cat Zuleika Admitted To RSPCA Isle Of Wight

A stray cat, now named Zuleika, provided a shock after being admitted to the RSPCA Isle of Wight Branch.

It was initially suspected that the friendly feline was pregnant after being admitted to the centre.

The staff gave Zuleika an initial health check where it was confirmed she was not pregnant, however she was in a lot of discomfort with a large lump on her tummy.

She was rushed to the local veterinary clinic where it was suspected that the lump could be a tumour.

The resilient cat, who had already endured the hardships of surviving as a stray, was subsequently confronting a new challenge and waiting for surgery.

On January 21, Zuleika was admitted to the local veterinary clinic to undergo surgery.

The initial concern of a potential tumour turned into a shocking revelation as the veterinary team discovered the true source of the cat’s agony — a cold and heartless act perpetrated by an air rifle, with a pellet lodged in poor Zuleika’s body.

Corynn Povey, Animal Centre Manager at RSPCA Isle of Wight Branch, said:

"This heart-wrenching incident serves as a stark reminder of the urgent need for compassion, empathy and a collective action to protect those who cannot speak for themselves.

"It is our shared responsibility as an organisation and a local community to create and live in a world where all animals are respected and treated with kindness and compassion."

Despite the hardships Zuleika has suffered she is now rid of the pellet and is receiving plenty of love and care from the staff at RSPCA Isle of Wight Branch.

Now that Zulieka is on the path to recovery, she will be looking for a forever home where her faith in humanity can be restored.
