Island friends Georgia Day and Sarah Howes have been nominated for the highly regarded IOW Woof Awards, recognising their local dog-inspired business, Wight Dog.

This nomination celebrates not only their creative venture but also their strong bond and dedication to the Island’s vibrant dog-loving community.

Georgia, who was born and raised on the Island, is a dental nurse by profession and has always had a deep connection to both the Island and her love of dogs.

Her family is well-known across the Isle of Wight for their impressive collection of classic cars, a passion of her parent's.

Her brother Edward further contributes to the local community by owning three dental surgeries on the Island.

For Georgia, Wight Dog is an extension of her Island roots and passion for her pets.

Growing up with Labradors, and now a proud owner of two, she wanted to create something that brought together her love for dogs and the unique spirit of the Isle of Wight.

Her long-time friend, Sarah Howes, originally from Manchester but an Island resident for most of her life, has been Georgia’s close companion for over 16 years.

Sarah, a deputy manager in health and social care, also runs a food business alongside her husband, Wayne.

Despite their busy schedules, Sarah has always made time to support Georgia and Wight Dog, spending weekends walking the dogs and developing ideas for their brand.

Together, they’ve built Wight Dog from the ground up.

Their friendship and mutual love for animals have been at the heart of their success.

“We’ve always worked as a team,” says Sarah.

“Wight Dog wouldn’t be what it is today without our shared vision and the amazing dog-friendly culture of the Island.

"This nomination means so much to us because it shows that our hard work is making a difference.”

The nomination for the IOW Woof Awards is a proud moment for Georgia and Sarah.

It highlights their creativity, dedication to their brand, and commitment to designing stylish, Isle of Wight-inspired dog wear.

Wight Dog’s products, from harnesses to leads and collars, are all about celebrating the unique beauty of the Island and offering high-quality items for local dog lovers.

The duo’s next goal is to expand their range, creating even more designs that capture the Island’s charm.

Both Georgia and Sarah are overjoyed to be recognised for their efforts.

“The Woof Awards are a huge honour,” Georgia adds.

“It’s a chance to not only showcase Wight Dog but also celebrate the incredible dog-loving community here on the Isle of Wight.

"We couldn’t be prouder to represent the Island.”

This nomination also ties into their broader work within the community, with Georgia and her partner, Daryl actively involved in helping lost dogs through volunteer efforts with Drone SAR for Lost Dogs, a free service that supports finding and reuniting lost pets across the UK.

As the nomination brings well-deserved recognition to the duo, Georgia and Sarah are excited to continue growing Wight Dog, hoping to bring more Isle of Wight-inspired products to local dog owners.

Their journey is a testament to the power of friendship, hard work, and a shared passion for dogs and the Island they call home.
