Islander Connor Tymon Wins On Professional MMA Debut In Bangkok

Islander Connor Tymon is celebrating following a successful Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) debut in Bangkok.

On Friday February 28 Connor, who trains at Brotherhood MMA in Lake, made his debut at the One Championship in Thailand - one of the biggest MMA platforms streamed to millions of people worldwide.

Connor and Kalon Tymon, his brother and head coach, travelled to Koh Samui on January 17 to train at Royal Fight Club Samui, under friend and coach Steve Cooke - former coach at Team Underground MMA in London.

After 5 gruelling weeks training and preparing, Connor flew into Bangkok with Kalon ready for fight week.

Fighting at Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok, opening up the fight card at One Championship Lumpinee 98, the fight was scheduled for three 5-minute rounds against his opponent, Sumit Bhyan of India - who had a professional record of 3 wins and 1 loss.

In the first round Connor defended multiple submission attempts, and upon returning to his corner the team knew that he had lost that round.

Connor switched his game and came out strong for the second round - landing accurate combinations to the head and the body.

This paid dividends, as just 46 seconds into the second round the referee called an end to the fight by Technical Knock Out (TKO), after Connor dropped his opponent with a perfect left hook.

Connor was announced as the winner, being the second ever fighter from the UK to win in an MMA fight at One Championship. Only 12 fighters from the UK have ever had the opportunity to fight on the promotion before.

Team Brotherhood MMA were all welcomed to Rocket Ronnie's in Newport, where the fight was being streamed live for everyone to support from home.

A spokesperson for Brotherhood MMA said:

"This is the biggest fight to come from the Isle of Wight, and is only the beginning of both Connor and the team at Brotherhood MMA.

"If you would like to train alongside and learn from Connor and Kalon, then visit Brotherhood MMA at their new location at Spithead Business Centre in Lake."
