Isle Of Wight Beekeepers Return From Jersey To Tackle Asian Hornets

Four Isle of Wight beekeepers have returned from Jersey this morning after spending seven days learning how to track and trace Asian hornets.

The quartet learned to identify and spot signs of the insects' characteristics.   

Jersey has had Asian Hornets for about seven years and includes a number of leading experts in tracing and destroying nests.

The Isle of Wight keepers are now back and due to the unexpected sudden increase of Asian Hornets on the south coast and the New Forest 

One of the Island beekeepers said:

"We need to start an awareness of these non-native top predator insects immediately. 

"Currently we haven’t had any sightings on the Island but if they haven’t been reported we won’t be aware."
