Isle of Wight Festival of Running Results 2024 Race Results

Perfect weather conditions encouraged runners of all abilities to join in with the IW Festival of Running on Sunday June 9.

A select field of 33 runners kicked of the event by taking part in the Freshwater 5k on Saturday, with Senior Charlie Wyler taking first place, and Hazel Shears from Langport Runners coming in as first woman.

The Junior Fun Run was well attended with thirty three tots to teens joining in a warm up with Speedy the Squirrel before a race around Freshwater Jubilee Field; with a spot prize of a Tapnell Farm Park Family Day pass.

By the time of the gun for the Needles Half Marathon, there was light cloud cover and runners faced gusty wind conditions.

Gary Marshall finished first with a lead of over 5 minutes ahead of second place Adam Jundi with Chris Till taking third. First woman was Amanda Hull of Romsey Road Runners, followed by Sally Hall from Lliswerry Runners, and third was Georgina Taylor.

Chani Jones won the Spot Prize of a pair of Saucony running shoes.

The event, organised by the West Wight Sports and Community Centre as a fundraiser for the charity, was supported by over 100 volunteers and local businesses including Sponsor Love Running, Tapnell Farm Park, TeeMill and Saucony.

Clare Griffin, General Manager of West Wight Sports and Community Centre said:

“We enjoy welcoming runners from all over the UK, offering the chance to race in some of the most beautiful scenery in the world.”

Entries are now open for future Isle of Wight running events, including the Chilly Hilly 10 mile run taking place on Sunday 8 December 2024, offering runners another opportunity to tackle the challenging cross-country hills of West Wight.

Isle of Wight Festival of Running 2024 virtual medals for 5k and half-marathon distances are also available from West Wight Sports and Community Centre and Love Running in Newport for £5.
