Medieval Knights Spotted Enjoying Summer Holiday On The Isle Of Wight

Some unusually dressed holidaymakers were spotted disembarking the ferry at East Cowes on Monday (August 4).

A troupe of medieval knights, fully kitted in their shining armour – despite the blazing sunshine – made a stop in at one of the island’s most well-known attractions, English Heritage’s Osborne.

The historical reenactors are taking part in a Knights’ Tournament at nearby Carisbrooke Castle this week.

Wandering around the grounds and formal gardens, which are in full summer colour, they had time to snap a few selfies in front of Osborne’s grand façade before exploring inside the house.

One painting in the drawing room, entitled La Siesta, seemed to particularly catch their eye, perhaps as it features three damsels in distress.

No visit to Osborne is complete without a slice of Victoria sponge, named after its former owner, and the knights were also seen tucking into a slice, though the armour was getting in the way.

The Tournament, which is taking place until Thursday, will see four knights take part in thrilling one-to-one combat and group battles to be crowned champion.

Next week, the knights will go on horseback to compete in the castle’s Legendary Joust event.
