Monkton Arts Prize Winners Announced For 2023

The winners of this year's Monkton Arts Prize have been announced.

The standard of entries this year has demonstrated the strength in depth and eclectic nature of the Island's art scene, with a range of exciting and gifted artists having been recognised for their fantastic contributions.

Monkton Arts continues to provide a vital and welcoming platform for those artists to shine, and has been pivotal to Ryde's creative scene over the past few years.

The first Prize of £1,000, sponsored by Monkton Arts and Friends of Monkton Arts (FOMA), went to Spike Homer (below, far right) for ‘Entre Chien Loup.'

Second Prize of £500, sponsored by Indigo Graphics, went to Barbara Gowan for ‘Machine Parts 1.’

Third Price of £250, sponsored by FOMA went to Jodie Redrup for ‘Shining Light on a Gloomy Day’.

The People’s Choice winnerJudith Barton for ‘Kyiv Cloud’, received a bottle of Gin, sponsored by Isle of Wight Gin Company went to .

The following artists received recognition in the Highly Commended category:

  • Angela Sowden for ‘Dune Grass’
  • Janet Beasley for ‘Shanklin Chine’
  • Holli Kalina for ‘Man-Made Ocean’
  • Deborah Williams for ‘Driftwood Bird’
  • Steve Baxter for ‘Constructed 3D work derived from natural form’
  • Fran Farrar for ‘Dodman’s Point’

The Monkton's Choice Award was given to: 

  • David Ives for ‘Can of Wonder’
  • Joshua Raffell for ‘Save the Curlews’
  • Heather Gray-Newton for ‘The Stairwell’

A spokesperson for Monkton Arts said:
