A new Thai restaurant has opened in Newport, following a successful launch last week.
Thai by Ja — based at Charter House in St Thomas' Square — officially opened its doors to the public this week after new owners bought the restaurant and hotel.
Run by charismatic couple Martin Ball and Ja Mangkang, the restaurant serves nutritious and authentic Thai food.
Head chef Ja told Isle of Wight Radio:
"I cook for (customers) in the same way as I would cook for my own family."
For Martin, who is running the front of house, this is far cry from his former career as a lorry driver.
He explained:
"This is my first foray into this kind business, I was a lorry driver but I like food!
"I saw this opportunity come up and Ja is such a great chef that we thought we would give it a try.
"The buzz and feedback we've had has gone absolutely crazy — it's been overwhelming really.
"It's a lot of early mornings and late nights, but when you have a full restaurant of happy diners it's worth it!"
Thai by Ja is opening for lunch and dinner, and is the only Thai restaurant in Newport.
The Charter House is a Grade II listed building which encompasses a six-bedroom hotel and restaurant.
Martin and Ja are currently in the process of building an online presence for the new restaurant.
