Orchard House Resident Celebrates 102nd Birthday With A Touch Of Tradition

Newport's Orchard House Care Home has celebrated the extraordinary life of Marie, a remarkable resident who turned 102 years old yesterday (Wednesday).

In an unusual twist, Marie has always chosen to celebrate her birthday on September 24, a cherished tradition she holds dear.

Marie was born on the beautiful Island of Mauritius, where her story began before she ventured to the UK in 1950.

Alongside her husband, who was also from Mauritius, Marie settled in Shepherd's Bush, London.

The couple later moved to Harrow, and eventually, Marie found her peaceful home on the Isle of Wight.

Marie’s working life brought her to the iconic Harrods department store, where she worked in the Juice Bar, preparing fresh fruit for customers.

However, her greatest joy came from raising her family.

Marie embraced her role as a devoted housewife, lovingly caring for her daughter Danielle while balancing a few jobs over the years.

An avid seamstress, Marie’s love for sewing has always been a passionate hobby.

Beyond her crafting talents, she has a lifelong love for music and dancing—activities that brought joy and the occasional lively celebration!

Today, Marie is the proud grandmother of two and a great-grandmother to a young great-grandson, sharing her joy and wisdom across the generations.

A spokesperson for Orchard House said:

"As Orchard House Care Home joins in this milestone celebration, we are honoured to recognize Marie’s rich and vibrant life, filled with love, music, and family."
