Radio Ga-Ga: Stray Radio Cat Gives Birth To Surprise Litter

A stray cat which adopted Isle of Wight Radio's HQ in Newport as its home this summer, has given birth to a litter of kittens after being taken in by the RSPCA.

Now named Isla, the delightful feline was found wandering around the radio station's Dodnor Park base.

The Breakfast Show team would often arrive in the early hours of the morning to find Isla begging to go inside.

Having done the best they could in trying to find out if she had any owners nearby, with the RSPCA Isle of Wight team called to bring her back to
their Animal Centre in Godshill where it was confirmed she didn't have a microchip.

Isla also received an initial health check where it was confirmed she was female and apart from being underweight she seemed healthy.

The RSPCA team named her Isla in honour of Isle of Wight Radio, but there was a fluffier surprise on the horizon!

Within a few days of Isla settling in, the team noticed a few behaviours that were common with pregnant mums.

The team carried out another health check with the assistance of their local vet who confirmed Isla was in fact pregnant.

Weeks went by and Isla was getting bigger and bigger.

She was placed in the maternity suite at the Animal Centre where three stray mums had already given birth.

On the October 3, Isla went into labour, but her pregnancy wasn’t the easiest and hours passed between the emergence of each kitten.

After the kittens were born the team noticed Isla was in some discomfort so she was rushed to the vets as a precaution.

Isla is now fully recovered from giving birth and is a great mother to three gorgeous kittens — all boys.

The RSPCA Isle of Wight team felt it was only right to name them after some of the presenters on the radio station.

It is with great pride that the team at Isle of Wight Radio welcomes a furrier, slightly cuddlier Jack, Josh and Paul into the world.

Georgina Davies, Cattery Team Leader at RSPCA Isle of Wight, said:

"This last month we have had four stray pregnant mums and a total of 13 kittens in our shelter.

"This is a huge reminder of the importance of getting cats spayed/neutered.

"Animal Shelters across the UK are running at full capacity, these surprise litters can be avoided with responsible pet ownership.

"Isla was so lucky that the Isle of Wight Radio team were looking out for her and called us to rescue when we did. Given Isla’s difficulty in giving birth, we may not have had 3 bundles of joy!"

Isla and her kittens will all be looking for their new adventures and finding their forever families when they are slightly older.
