Rotary Club Of Shanklin Holding Annual Two-Week Charity Sale From Today

The Rotary Club Of Shanklin's annual charity sale has started today (Tuesday) and will run until January 20.

Held at Winchester House on Sandown Road, for many decades the event offers a two-week pop-up sale each January within the community.

The band of stalwart Rotarians are enthusiastically supported by a regular team of around 40 local volunteers to collect, display, sell and deliver a plethora of Island donations.

As its reputation has increased over the years, so have donations, and controlling the flow needs tight logistical planning, reflected in pre-Covid takings of over £40,000 during the fortnight.

With a much smaller venue, storm damage and less control, this crashed to £17,000 in the first post-Covid year.

A spokesperson for The Rotary Club of Shanklin said:

"Every December we leaflet each house in our local area - although word of mouth always carries it to the far reaches of the Island.

"Van collections are door-to-door in designated areas and specific dates, and earmarked by attachment of our bright leaflets.

"There is also a dedicated phone line, which alerts us to specific and larger donations."

The Rotary Club of Shanklin's 2024 charity sale takes place daily from 10am - 4pm, from today until Saturday January 20 (excluding Sunday 14 and Monday 15 January).

It is being held at YMCA. Winchester House on Sandown Road in Shanklin.

Collections of donations being made until this Sunday (January 14).
