Runners of all abilities are being challenged to take on a race with a difference.
Race The Train will see runners attempt to complete a five-kilometre course between Wootton and Havenstreet faster than the Isle of Wight Steam Railway’s team.
Seasoned runners, parkrun plodders and active families are all invited to take on the people power versus steam challenge.
After meeting at Havenstreet station for registration, competitors catch the train down the line to Wootton station.
The locomotive's whistle signals the start of the race for both train and runners.
The 5km route takes runners through Wootton, then on a woodland trail back to Havenstreet station.
The challenge is to make it back before the train (which will steam to the end of the line at Smallbrook Junction and back).
There are two races, the first being for keen runners.
Registration for this starts at 9.15 with the train whistle at 10.30am.
This will be followed by a race for all ages and abilities with registration from 10:15am and the train whistle at 11.40am.
Marc Morgan-Huws, Isle of Wight Steam Railway chief executive, said:
“This challenge is ideal for runners of all abilities.
“Come along, enjoy a leisurely train ride to Wootton then race back to Havenstreet on our specially designed course.”
All finishers also get a medal for their efforts.
Entry: £15 Adults, £10 Under 18s, includes train journey and medal for all runners. Ample free parking at Havenstreet.
