Sailing Success Sees Ryde School Qualify For Match Racing World Championships in Jeddah

Ryde School’s sailing team has finished the season on a high to qualify for a global event.

Ryde hosted the BSDRA Team Racing Finals last week which was not only the biggest turn out in the history of the event but also the biggest team racing event in the world so far this year with over 50 teams competing including teams from China, US and Ireland.

The first Ryde School team (Fred, Noah, Killian, Finn, Annabelle and Charles) came second overall and were placed first school and the BSDRA Team Racing Champions.

The Ryde School junior team (Olly M, Olly S, Cassius and Ellie B) came third in their fleet against some highly rated teams.

The team then travelled to the National Youth Match Racing championships in Weymouth and won again — not a school event and one that the school was not expected to win.

These stunning performances ensured the Ryde School team qualified for the Match Racing World Championships in Jeddah in November.

Earlier in the season Ryde School also won the Schools’ Fleet Racing Championships, meaning that Ryde School has won the treble.

Will Turner, Head Master, said:

"These recent two events have capped off an amazing season for our sailors.

"To have been so successful across the year is a testament to the teamwork, dedication and ambition of our elite sailors and the fantastic staff who support them.

"They are a credit to themselves and our School."
