Spotlight To Shine On Island Gardens This Summer In Return Of Popular Competition

The passion and dedication of gardeners on the Isle of Wight is to be celebrated with the return of the popular gardening competition Wight In Bloom.

Wight In Bloom recognises the work of green-fingered wonders, from small front gardens to businesses with a floral feature, community displays and welcome retreats in care homes.

New to 2024 is the Best Climate Resilient Garden category, highlighting gardens and green spaces that conserve or restore our natural landscapes and wildlife, or are inspired by the Island’s UNESCO Biosphere Reserve status in their creative practice.

This year, organisers of Wight In Bloom have suggested a theme – although not mandatory – that is set to inspire gardeners.

Floral fans are being encouraged to think about the RNLI, which for 200 years has been saving lives at sea and are an integral part of the Island.

Suggestions include incorporating the RNLI colours, water features or even lifeboat planters.

The deadline for entries is May 31, with judging taking place between 4 and 25 June.

Those with a passion for their own gardening efforts are invited to enter by following this link.

An awards ceremony at Albert Cottage Hotel at East Cowes will be hosted by the Island’s new High Sheriff Graham Biss on Thursday 18 July.
