Time To Plant Trees For Red Squirrel Awareness Week

You can now plant trees, recommended by Alan Titchmarsh, to feed your local red squirrels and money will be donated to the charity that protects them.

Alan is an ambassador for the Red Squirrel Survival Trust and has listed trees and bushes that bear food for reds.

One of the UK’s leading mail-order tree companies has joined forces with the RSST to supply the trees and donate 10% of the money to them.

Mail Order Trees from Ely has agreed to supply Walnut, Hazelnut, Conifers, berry bearing Holly, Wild & Bird Cherry, Bullace, Cobnuts, Blackberry and Raspberry trees and bushes.

“The announcement of our agreement is perfect timing for Red Squirrel Awareness Week (26 September to 4 October) and is particularly important to gardeners living close to areas where there are existing red squirrel populations,” says Vanessa Fawcett, operations director of the Red Squirrel Survival Trust.

“The trees can be for planting in gardens or as a gift and we deliver across the UK.

"They all carry a 12-month guarantee.

"Container grown trees and shrubs can be planted the year round and bare rooted varieties between November and March,” explains Mike Simpson, the founder of Mail Order Trees."
