The Isle of Wight’s Utilita Energy Hub is set to mark its fifth-year anniversary next week and the team in Newport will be welcoming both regular and new hub visitors to join a free Coffee Morning with energy efficiency top tips and a prize raffle.
Simon Jackson, Supervisor at the Newport Energy Hub, is looking forward to welcoming Islanders to help celebrate the milestone event on Wednesday, 19 March (9am-5:30pm) and everyone is invited along to enjoy a slice of birthday cake and a cup of tea, coffee or hot chocolate.
Hub visitors will also have the chance to enter a raffle to win a Rice Cooker, thanks to the UK’s leading Smart PAYG energy supplier, with the prize winner being drawn and revealed at 5pm.
Back in 2018, Utilita opened its first hub in the UK with the aim of getting out into local communities and serving to help not only customers, but everyone that is part of that community too.
In March 2020, Utilita officially opened the Island’s first high street Energy Hub as part of its drive to have more face-to-face conversations with people about how to make their energy go further and pay less, and it’s been providing vital community support ever since.
The hub aims to serve the community, offering energy advice to absolutely anyone that requires it and also engages in community events as well as working with charities such as the Pyle Street Pantry and Pan Together, a volunteer-led charity which supports Island residents via the Downside Community Centre.
It also regularly welcomes local community groups, such as u3a and Women On the Wight’s (WOW!) Knit and Natter, to its free-to-book Community Room.
Reflecting on the hub’s success over the past five years, Simon said:
“We have had such fantastic support since the first day we opened our doors and really have been made to feel so welcome in Newport.
"It’s thanks to our local community that we have done so well and been able to provide so much support to local good causes.
"For me, one of the many highlights over the past five years was hosting England’s Aneurin Donald and Scotland’s Scott Currie at a meet and greet session in the hub, which proved hugely popular with cricket fans from across the Island.
“We’re immensely grateful to the people of Newport, and beyond, for really embracing what we do here – and we look forward to celebrating our milestone anniversary on Wednesday, 19 March.
"Please do pop along for a cuppa, a slice of birthday cake, and take advantage of our energy saving advice - good for the planet, and your pocket.”
The Utilita Energy Hub is open from Monday to Saturday at 121 High St, Newport.
