Ventnor’s First-Ever Pirate Festival Hailed A Swashbuckling Success

Ventnor recently made waves with its first-ever Pirate Festival.

The four-day extravaganza which took place between 14-17 August saw visitors and locals alike come together to celebrate all things thing piratical, culminating in an event that has already cemented its place in the town's cultural calendar.

The festival kicked off with a grand pirate parade, that saw pirates of all ages, from young landlubbers to seasoned seadogs, march through the town along with the Ventnor Carnival procession.

Local businesses enthusiastically joined in on the festivities, decorating shopfronts with skulls, crossbones, and an array of pirate-themed decor that added to the festival’s strong, community spirit.

Entertainment was in no short supply over the four days, with a programme packed to cater for buccaneers of all ages.

Children (and the young at heart) could get stuck in an array of activities around Ventnor Paddling Pool and on the beach, including treasure hunts,
workshops, games and the chance to interact with their favourite pirates.

For adults, the Spyglass Inn became a buzzing tavern for thirsty scallywags, with tons of live music and sea shanties to sing along to whilst basking in the glorious summer sun.

"We're thrilled with the success of Ventnor's first Pirate Festival," said Steph Toogood, the event's organiser.

"The community’s enthusiasm and participation exceeded all expectations and was incredible. We can’t wait to do it all again next year!"

Neil Gibbs, owner of The Spyglass Inn, added:

“We’re very pleased with the success of the festival’s first year.

"We’d love for this event to continue to grow and bring more Islanders together to celebrate our unique sea-faring heritage in such an exciting fashion”.
