West Wight Sports and Community Centre unveiled its new Changing Places Toilet this week.
The facility is registered on the Changing Places network coordinated by MDUK (Muscular Dystrophy UK).
Changing Places is a nationally recognised scheme across the UK led by MDUK, which is campaigning for accessible toilets to be installed in public venues across the country.
People with severe disabilities and their carers have to plan days out carefully in order to ensure they can access toilet facilities.
The Changing Places network opens up more opportunities to people with disabilities and allows them to enjoy facilities that would otherwise have been inaccessible to them.
West Wight Sports and Community Centre was successful in its application to secure funding from the Isle of Wight Council for this facility to
be installed.
The new facility is accessible seven days a week during the opening hours of West Wight Sports and Community Centre and a key is available from reception.
Clare Griffin, Manager at West Wight Sports and Community Centre, said:
“We are delighted to have been able to install this Changing Places Toilet at our facility as it enables people in the community and further afield to use West Wight Sports and Community Centre.
"This is the only Changing Places Toilet in the West Wight and so we welcome anyone who needs to use it.
"We are already a unique establishment with all our amenities being on a single level as well as providing hoist access to both our small and main pools."
