WightAID Garden Party Raises Thousands For Local Good Causes

After supporting more than 200 Island charities and raising over £600,000, WightAID decided it was time for a party…to raise even more money!

Saturday’s garden party, held at the home of Amy and Geoff Underwood, added more than £35,000 to the pot to support Isle of Wight good causes.

An auction for lots including a signed Wet Leg T-Shirt, a VIP experience at a forthcoming Level 42 gig in Portsmouth and chance for 150 school pupils to go to Blackgang Chine, raised much of the cash and a raffle for some top prizes plus ticket sales for the party made up the rest.

Three Island charities were given £1,000 donations on the day, with John Irvine, CEO, of event sponsor Wightfibre, giving cheques to Care In the Garden, Tidal Family Support and Community Spirited Café.

Since 2016, when Geoff Underwood founded the charity, WightAID has made more than 300 donations to help everything from Cowes Sailability to West Wight Sports and Community Centre.

As well as Wightfibre, the party was supported by WRS Systems, HTP Apprenticeship College, Isle of Wight Radio and Frontrow Ground Works.

Amy Underwood, of WightAID, said:

“Hopefully everyone who came along, enjoyed themselves, especially as the weather was fantastic.

“The total raised was an astonishing £35,416.80 and that money will all be granted to local good causes right here in your Island community and will make a huge difference.

“Thanks also go to everyone involved in making the party one to remember, but special thanks go to Wightfibre for their generous sponsorship.

“If you want to continue your support for WightAID, maybe through a regular donation, the please do let us know."
