The Isle of Wight has been shortlisted as finalist in the Group Leisure and Travel Awards, which could see the much-loved holiday destination crowned top for the third year in a row.

The Isle of Wight has been nominated by readers of Group Leisure and Travel magazine and is now in the running to be voted winner as the Best UK Destination.

Readers can vote for their favourite destination, which sees the Island up against other top UK locations, including County Durham, London, Wiltshire and Liverpool.

Amy Summers, Head of Marketing and Sustainability at Visit Isle of Wight, said:

"To be shortlisted once again in the GLT Awards is an incredible honour. It just goes to show how fantastic the tourism offer is here on our island and how hard local businesses work to provide reasons to visit time and again.

"Coach and group travel is a vital part of our visitor numbers, especially through the winter months, and this award highlights the importance the sector contributes to our island economy.

"Visit Isle of Wight, works alongside the exhibitions partnership to make sure the island is represented at key trade shows throughout the year, ensuring the island remains on group travel organiser's itineraries.

"To win the award three years in a row would be amazing, so I urge all group travel organisers, coach and tour organisers to vote for our island!"

Other businesses with strong Isle of Wight links are also represented in the well-known group travel awards.

Daish’s Holidays are shortlisted in the Best Coach or Tour Operator, Wightlink in the Best Ferry or Fixed Link Operator, and in the Best Accommodation for Groups category it is a three-way battle for the Island between Leisureplex Holiday Hotels (Shanklin Hotel and Bayshore Hotel in Sandown), Daish’s Holidays at Shanklin and Warner Hotels in Yarmouth and Bembridge.

Voting in the awards closes at the end of April and the winners will be announced at a ceremony in London on 26 June.
