Southern Vectis is calling on Isle of Wight based women to consider a new career as a bus driver.
The operator is hosting a bus driving event at Rookley Test Centre in Ventnor on Thursday 3 October, so anyone interested can experience what it’s like to drive a bus in the safety of an off-road environment.
“Across the UK, women are still vastly under-represented in this field - and we want to encourage more of them to consider working within the bus industry as a driver,” said Southern Vectis head of communications, Nikki Honer.
“We often hear from women that they don’t feel they could drive a bus - we know this is not the case. If they can drive a car, we will teach them the rest. With the right training, it’s far easier than many might think.
A specially branded bus at the event aims to raise awareness and attract more women into the industry.
Nikki explains:
“The bus has the faces of many of our existing amazing female team who are already doing a great job.
“The event will also provide a great chance for those interested in joining us to find out more about what’s involved.
“We’re looking forward to welcoming lots of potential Southern Vectis team members on 3 October. And registering a place is easy through a link from our website."
The women’s event takes place between 10am and 2pm at Rookley Test Centre, Pritchett’s Way, Ventnor, PO38 3LT.
People can arrive by car, but the site is accessible by bus. Route 3 stops in Rookley Village. The stop is called Rookley, The Lakes.
