Chris Eubank Jr slaps Conor Benn with an egg during face-off in press conference ahead of April 26 clash

Chris Eubank Jr lashed out at Conor Benn at the end of an explosive press conference between the pair ahead of their April 26 showdown.

Eubank Jr and Benn went head-to-head in front of the cameras ahead of their long-awaited British battle at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this April, two and a half years on from when the rivals were due to clash.

The pair traded insults at each other during a 40-minute press conference in Manchester, with Benn and Eubank Jr continuing to exchange words at each other when the pair faced off.

Eubank Jr turned his face as his opponent talked directly into his ear, before slapping an egg in Benn's face and sparking a melee that led to the pair being separated by security.

Benn reacted to the incident on social media, where he posted: "That's the only shot you'll land on me you f****** p****. Two rounds you are finished @ChrisEubankJr."

Eubank lands blow on Benn in fiery press conference

The rivals had originally been due to face off in October 2022 before that fight was cancelled when Benn failed two drug tests.

The WBC said in early 2023 that a "highly-elevated consumption of eggs" was a "reasonable explanation" for his failed test, while Benn's two-year battle to clear his name saw his suspension finally lifted in November.

Eubank posted on X: "Apparently egg contamination was the reason for his two failed drugs tests. So I contaminated him with an egg."

Benn's promoter Eddie Hearn slammed Eubank's behaviour, saying after the press conference: "Everything he [Eubank] does is pre-meditated. There's nothing that happens where he adapts to during a press conference. I thought it was a b**** move to be honest with you.

"What he has done is taken an egg to a press conference, sat at the press conference the whole time with an egg, then slapped Conor Benn in the eye with an egg. I thought it was glass to be honest with you, because of the noise it made.

"I think the world we live in today, it will go viral and people think it will be amusing but, in the fight game, everything changes now about this fight."

'Unbelievable entertainment' but too far from Eubank?

Eubank and Benn are scheduled to meet in another press conference on Thursday at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium but Hearn has warned that could be at risk.

"I don't know if we can do Thursday's press conference to be honest with you, because it will be attack on sight," Hearn warned. "It won't be 'have a sleep on it, calm down', because it's a one-upmanship.

"It wasn't a slap, it was with an object in the eye. From my point of view it's unacceptable, but the game is the game. If you want to play those games, then the fun really begins and it might not be the fun that people want.

"Certainly now, I could not let Conor Benn near Chris Eubank Jr. I could not let Nigel Benn anywhere near Chris Eubank Jr. Whether that changes over 48 hours we will see, but these two need to be kept apart and they can't be anywhere near each other."

Benn's promoter Ben Shalom suggested he was unaware of Eubank's planned attack and admitted his behaviour may have crossed the line.

"It was a great press conference up until that point that, but I have to say that probably takes it too far," Shalom said. "My god, that was mental. It will be interesting what happens on Thursday now.

"Chris is uncontrollable in that situation. He does what he wants, he thinks what he wants and we've seen what he has been like in press conferences this year. He's a man of his own and if he feels like he's going to do something, he's going to do something.

"Too far for me, but unbelievable press conference and unbelievable entertainment."

Turki Alalshikh, Chairman of Saudi Arabia's General Entertainment Authority, told Sky Sports earlier this week that a shot at pound-for-pound great Canelo Alvarez is on the line for the winner in early 2026.
