The three Isle of Wight teams who play in the Wessex League return to action today (Sat) following last weekend’s postponements due to the passing of Queen Elizabeth II.
Cowes Sports travel to Brockenhurst in the Premier Division, knowing they will have to be at their best against a team currently eighth in the table with seven points from as many games. However, the hosts have played three more games than the Yachtsmen, who made a promising start to the campaign, before suffering three consecutive defeats which have left them third from bottom with just three points.
Yachtsmen manager Max Draper will be anxious to see his side start climbing the table as quickly as possible, and knows that if his players perform to their full potential, they are capable of returning to the Island with at least a point.
East Cowes Vics will be looking to move further up the First Division table when they host Whitchurch United. Both teams have six points to date, but Whitchurch have played a game more than the Island outfit. So Vics will look on the game at Beatrice Avenue as the perfect opportunity to claim their first home victory of the campaign, following three successive draws, and move into a comfortable mid-table position.
Meanwhile, Newport travel to Romsey Town, for only their fourth league match of the new season. Having recovered from a surprise home defeat early on, the Port will certainly have their sights set on maximum points to leapfrog over Romsey, who have so far managed seven points from their opening four games.
Cowes Sports’ game at Brockenhurst has a 2.30pm kick off, while Vics and Newport both kick off at 3pm
