Clean Up Operation For Cowes High Street Following Flooding

A major clean-up operation has taken place in Cowes today (Tuesday) after reportedly record breaking sea levels caused severe flooding throughout the High Street.

Some shops estimate they have lost thousands of pounds worth of stock as a result of the high water levels.

Sand bags were deployed outside most of the ground level properties.

Here is a selection of images which show the state of the High Street following efforts to reduce water levels and aid the businesses most severely affected by the floods.

Five Environment Agency flood warnings were put in place for the Isle of Wight, including Cowes, East Cowes, and Newport, with people urged to move cars from seafront car parks.

Many areas reportedly recorded their highest-ever tides, the Environment Agency has said.
